 POSITION:                   Special Projects Technician

 

LOCATION:                  Roads Construction Program Building , Concho , Oklahoma

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Special Projects Technician shall be under the direct supervision of the Special Projects Officer and in absence of the Special Projects Officer shall report to the Project Inspector and/or Project Analyst/Specialist.  The Special Projects Technician shall assist the Special Projects Officer in duties relating to inventory of routes and the Driveway Assistance Program.  Projects and activities range from obtaining traffic counts, measuring driveways, roads, or bridges, and inventory of utilities and drainage structures along routes.  The Special Project Technician shall be responsible acquiring photos of each section of route as related to the inventory process and for the proper catalog of each photo taken.  As Special Projects Technician, incumbent shall be relied on for accurate field reports and entry of data collected.  The Special Projects Technician shall assist in the development and/or creation of strip maps for sections of routes collected for inventory purposes.   Other duties within the Roads Construction Program may be assigned by the Special Projects Officer and/or the Director as deemed necessary.

  • Must have knowledge of basic plan reading to analyze maps to determine location and size of projects.
  • Must be familiar and able to use survey equipment and traffic counters.
  • Must be able to maintain an adequate record-keeping system as related to field work and activities (i.e. weather conditions, terrain conditions, types of surface, road safety audits, etc) on a daily basis, or as established by the Special Projects Officer.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively to other professionals in the road construction industry, including engineers and BIA officials.
  • Must be able to effectively organize activities to provide a schedule to the Special Projects Officer and/or Director of the Program.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of records, files, and other related documents

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  The Special Projects Technician position requires a self-motivated individual who is able to work independently with little supervision and able to confer with supervisor regarding management of assets and inventory of routes, roads, driveways, bridges, or other transportation infrastructures.  Incumbent must be able to follow directions and complete necessary paperwork to document various aspects of daily activities.   Experience in the field of construction is helpful.  Applicant may be required to demonstrate skills in basic knowledge of plan reading.  The Special Projects Technician position requires an individual willing to demonstrate initiative in assuming responsibilities and work cooperatively with local and State professions in order to obtain supportive documents as related to inventory of Tribal routes.

  • High School Diploma, or GED Certification, minimum education required.
  • Experience in heavy equipment operations, construction activities, and/or asset management requested, but not required.  Training in surveying provided.
  • Must be reliable and punctual to work.
  • Must be willing to attend various training programs, specifically Road Scholars Program
  • Must have current Oklahoma State Driver’s License
  • Must pass pre-hire drug screen/test.
  • Cheyenne & Arapaho preference.

 

SALARY:  Starting salary shall be negotiable and shall commensurate to education and experience.  The Special Projects Technician position is an entry-level position and advancement and/or promotion available, dependent upon evaluation.

 

Advancement and/or promotion to Heavy Equipment Operator, under the Roads Maintenance Program, or to a Transit Driver, under the Tribal Transit Program, possible upon completion of the Road Scholars Program and/or other related training programs available.
