POSITION: Cook, Head Start Program
LOCATION: Head Start Center, Clinton, OK

All staff will work toward this overall program goal: To assist each child in developing to his/her potential, and to empower parents in their roles as the most important and primary teachers, caregivers, and role models of their own children.
General Objective: To plan and prepare meals for program children. Assists the Nutrition Manager in ensuring that all Performance Standards within the components are met. Staffs that have a First Aid or Childhood Emergency certification will be expected to provide emergency first aid during their routine job duties.
Reports to: Center Supervisor and works with the Nutrition Manager.
Supervises: N/A
Hours Worked: 40 hours per week, flexible schedule with possible early morning or evening work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Prepare breakfast, lunches and/or shacks that meet USDA and Program guidelines.
Ø Keep kitchen area clean.
Ø Plans meals according to budget requirements.
Ø Maintains inventory of all items.
Ø Responsible for keeping USDA records.
Ø Together with a teacher, plan and carry out nutrition and cooking activities with children.
Ø Submit appropriate records and reports.
Ø Prepare foods for special events.
Ø Ensures the cook aide is performing duties as outlined.
Ø Reports any concerns of the kitchen, food purchases and food inventory to the Center Supervisor and the Nutrition Manager.
Ø Attends all training as required to maintain food service compliance.
Ø Any other duties as assigned.
Program Participation and Team Member
Ø Arrives at work on time, punctually attends and actively participates in all required meetings and training.
Ø Required to be a respectful, cooperative and reliable team member.
Ø Projects a professional work image, both in dress and manner.
Confidentiality
Ø Required to respect the confidentiality of information about enrolled children and families, personnel issues, and other program operations as appropriate.
Training
Ø In consultation with supervisor, develop own professional work goals and training plan.
Ø Participate in training as requested.
Qualifications
Ø Obtain and hold current food handlers card.
Ø High School diploma or GED
Ø Must be in good health and be free from communicable diseases.
Ø Must have experience in food preparation, budgeting and nutrition for young children.
Ø Preference will be given to Head Start parents.
Ø Knowledge of Head Start is desirable.
Ø Ability to work with low income families.
Ø Ability to function effectively in cross cultural situation.
Ø Valid Oklahoma Driver’s license and insured vehicle available for use on the job or acceptable alternative.
Ø Must be willing to obtain a CDL and bus drivers certification.
Ø Current Childhood Emergency/CPR or First Aid/CPR certification.
Ø Maintain compliance with Criminal History Registry.
Ø Must be able to pass pre hire drug screen
Physical Qualifications: Ability to manage physically active children, ages three to five, within a weight range up to 60 pounds, including lifting, restraining, guiding, pursing, withstanding sudden movements. Ability to move or lift supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
